Community Development

In keeping with its mission statement, the Company has a number of integrated activities that have been implemented and are all part of the total concept of the "Community Development Programme".

Berau Coal considers itself a leader in the community development and akes prides in its achievements in this area. Since the commencement of operations it has had excellent relationships with the immediate communities surrounding the operations. It also has sound relationships with the local Government.

The contractors are also encouraged to contribute in a similar manner to that of the Company.

In 1998, the company founded a trust called "Yayasan Dharma Bhakti Berau Coal", In order to help the local community more effectively. Implementation of Community Development concentrates on four main activities:

Development of human resources

This focuses on education and knowledge for students and teachers in various levels of education within the community.

Development of health and nutrition

This activity provides information and health examination for the people in the district.

Development of the environment and culture

In consideration of the local culture and the needs of the community. The company is committed to return the environment back to its previous state.

Social contribution

Since commencement of operations PT. Berau Coal has provided assistance to the community in various forms. It works in partnership with the Regional Government to achieve this.

PT. Berau Coal is continually striving to maintain good relationships and live in harmony with the surrounding communities and in formulating its Environmental and Community Development strategies, looks to the future with the ultimate goal that on completion of its mining activities it will leave behind more mature and self sufficient society.
